Oh yes! The convenince and comfort of not having to deal with a clutch pedal in traffic or moving slowly, and the fun and involvement of a changing the gears and manipulating the revs as in a manual!

That gearbox must have so many problems.

VW had it first in the beetles...

One pedal too little and no automatic mode? Isn't this the worst of both worlds? xD

Except, as James May found out, it is utterly impossible to parallel park in reverse while facing downhill in one.

Seemingly so. Several makers - Merc, Fiat, Renault, Ferrari - tried this and fairly rapidly thought better of it. The idea seems to come and go because VW and Citroen tried it in the 1950s and 60s.
In transmission news, you can still buy vehicles that have a clutch pedal but change their own gears

Citroen would not agree with you.

The car just broke down by so many people that have seen its photo.

Really? I read about them having a unique gearbox, but thought it would be something else.

It is!!
OR, a CVT with an O or L Button...

The unit in my 08 9-3 is actually pretty decent, slap stick mode is sluggish of course but I usually leave it in auto + sport mode

Electric servo operated clutch.

I'm just trying to wrap my head around how it would know when to let the clutch in and out.

Sport mode wakes up a transmission a lot.

It must have a heat sensor in the shifter or something!

Even in modern cars with modern technology I wouldn't trust it!

Haha Imagine if you tried to change gear, and the car would grind the gears, because the computers brain thought it wasnt a good time to change gear. It would drive me UP THE WALL

That's exactly what I'm thinking would happen almost every time.

What the... ? I just watched a YouTube clip of this in action and I still can't even wrap my head around how it works

Still, Saab build planes, so I can say I am a pilot.

now that's what you call best of both worlds. It is neither called an automatic nor a manual, but a sensonic. It has no selectable automatic function, unless if you want to shut down traction control or abs.

Microswitch in the lever. Start to move it or touch the knob with any downward pressure and the clutch releases. Let go and it engages. Also releases when you stop and engages when you accelerate again. Stop in traffic for more than a few seconds and then the electric motor that operates the clutch starts to overheat and the car beeps at you to put it into neutral. Fail to do that and I think the engine stops.
